The Murder Under the Microscope (MuM) team have once again been successful. The Tooleybuc Trackers this year received a highly commended for their entry this year, an amazing achievement. This is the second year students at Tooleybuc Central School have experienced success in Murder under the Microscope competition.
There were 840 schools involved in MuM 09, from all states in Australia and a few international schools too. There were just over 1300 teams registered. Some schools had as many as 10 or 12 teams, although this varied.
Tooleybuc Central entered one team made up of 6 students from Year 8, 3 from both Year 7 and Year 6 and one Year 5 student. Murder under the Microscope (MuM) is an interactive environmental investigation game for school students. It will runs for approximately 10 weeks in term 2, (April-July) 2009 for years 5 to 10 and is accessed through a website.
The aims of MuM are to:
· build students' understanding of environmental issues
· foster awareness of the impact of human activity on the environment
· promote appreciation of the need for sustainable practices in production, work and life activities.
In 2008 the Tooleybuc Tracker's team were joint winners with their catchment management plan. This year the team's entry for ‘Crisis on the Coast' received a Highly Commendation Award. The team was awarded the prize because the standard of their submission was so high, even though their entry was not the outright winner in the Eco-Planners for 2009 Competition.
